What's covered?

What’s Hire Vehicle cover?

You can add Hire Vehicle cover if you're an existing Diamond car insurance customer. It's an optional add-on. It lasts up to 28 days, and you'll get a similar-sized car if yours is written-off or stolen and unrecoverable.

What does Hire Vehicle cover do?

Covered for up to 28 days

A hire car for up to 28 days if your car is written off or stolen and unrecovered.

Similar-sized car

You'll receive a vehicle that's similar in size to the car that you are insuring with us, with an engine size up to 2.0L and up to seven seats.

Cover for all named drivers

Cover for all named drivers with a full licence in the hire car.

£400 alternative

£400 to cover travel expenses (or anything else you like) if you choose not to take up the hire car option.

Delivered to your door

We'll deliver the hire car to your home or work, ready to drive straightaway. We'll also give you £15 complimentary fuel when the car is delivered.

What doesn't it do?

Our Hire Vehicle cover doesn't provide cover for:

Fuel, fines, fees and fares

We don’t cover the hire vehicle's running costs.

Excess

You're responsible for paying the excess if there's an incident with your hire vehicle.

Hire charges after 28 days

You'll need to pay hire charges after this period ends.

Claims not reported to police

Certain claims like malicious damage or theft need a Police Crime Reference Number to get cover.

Non-fault claims

We don't provide cover for claims where the costs of a hire vehicle are recoverable from the insurer of the person who caused the accident. We also can't provide cover if your vehicle is repairable or recovered.

We won't provide a vehicle that's the exact same make, model, size and fuel type as yours.

You may be confused how all this differs from courtesy car cover, which we include as standard in our comprehensive car insurance.

What if my claim was non-fault?

We may provide a hire car if your claim is non-fault. This is known as non-fault hire, and we'll discuss this with you when you start a non-fault claim.

Courtesy cars are where you get a replacement while a garage repairs yours. It isn’t a like-for-like replacement.

Why do I need Hire Vehicle cover?

Sometimes, you're left without a car while a claim settles. Hire Vehicle cover stops that from happening.

If you rely on your car, which most of us do, then it can provide a safety net. You know you won’t end up without a car, which helps reduce stress.

We’ll provide you with a similar size hire car or £400 to keep you moving without much fuss.

How do I make a claim?

Call the Diamond claims line on 0333 220 2075 (Call fees | Opening hours) immediately after an insured incident. Once we confirm that your car has been written off, you'll be able to choose whether you'd prefer the hire car or the £400. If you choose the hire car, Diamond will advise Auxillis Services Limited, who administer the Hire Vehicle cover on your behalf, who will then contact you to arrange a convenient time and place to deliver your hire car. Or if you choose the £400 we'll arrange for this to be paid to you.

How do I extend my cover?

Diamond Hire Vehicle cover allows for up to 28 days of cover for policyholders. If you need your hire car for a longer period of time, you can extend the hire by contacting Auxillis Services Limited on 0344 571 2715 (Call fees | Opening hours).

How long does my Diamond Hire Vehicle cover last?

Your Hire Vehicle cover runs alongside your Diamond motor insurance policy. This means that cover will normally last for 12 months.

I have a disability and my car is modified to fit this. Are you able to provide a vehicle with the same modifications?

We'll do our best to give you a replacement with the same modifications if you need one. However, if this isn’t possible, you'll still be entitled to the £400 cash alternative.
